Rawhide Dog Treats

Rawhide dog treats are usually made of the hide of cows,
horses, and other animals. You need to be aware that most of
the time these chews are made in other countries and can
contain lead, arsenic, insecticides, and antibiotics that could
be unhealthy for your dog. It is much better not to have these
type of rawhide dog treats around as there is a possibility of
a child finding and chewing on the treat.
Rawhide is very palatable to dogs, but currently some
veterinarians have been seeing more acute constipation in dogs
because the rawhide is not digestible and larger pieces can get
caught in the intestine. If the dog would only use the rawhide
dog treats as a pacifier, and not eat it like food, this
wouldn’t be a problem, but they don’t. Before you offer your
dog a rawhide dog treat, talk to your veterinarian, and see
what they recommend.

Remember to do a bit of homework on rawhide dog treats and do
ask the vet what they think. Personally, I do not give rawhide
dog treats to my dog, I usually get her toys. If she happens to
tear them up, I throw them out and get new. I know that I need
to supervise her when she plays with, and chews on the toys as
pieces of them can break off too, and she could swallow them. I
believe care must be taken with any form of dog treat or
toy.
