Natural Soft Dog Treats
There are several internet stores that sell natural soft dog
treats. You can also make these treats yourself, and it is not
difficult. Here are a couple of recipes to start with.
Soft Doggie Cookies
3 (2 1/2 oz each) jars of baby food– chicken or beef.
1/4 cup dry milk powder.
1/4 cup wheat germ or cream of wheat.
Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Roll into
small balls and placed on a well greased cookie sheet. Flatten
balls slightly with a fork. Bake in a 350 degree preheated oven
for 15 minutes or until brown. Cool an a wire rack. Refrigerate
to keep fresh or freeze. These treats are wonderful for older
dogs with teeth problems.
Snickerpoodles
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup honey
2 eggs
3 ¾ cups white flour
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ cup cornmeal
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Mix shortening, vegetable oil, and honey with eggs, beat well.
Add flour, soda, and cream of tartar. Knead the dough until
well mixed. Shape dough by rounded teaspoons into balls. Mix
the cornmeal and cinnamon together in a separate bowl and roll
the balls in this mixture. Place balls 2 inches apart on a
greased cookie sheet. Press the balls down with a fork. Bake
for 8-10 minutes at 400 degrees. Cool on a rack and store in an
airtight container.
