How to Train A Dog with
A Bad Personality

dog training

There are some dogs who simply have worse personalities than others. You may have one who likes to tear your home apart at every given opportunity; or, even worse, a dog who resists interacting with people by growling and attempting to bite. Even though these types of dogs can be quite frustrating to deal with, you do not have to give up on him-- he can be trained to be cooperative.

As the main key to dog training is attitude, this is even more important if you have a dog who is difficult or has a bad personality. The key to keep in mind in dealing with this type of dog is that your attitude is more important than his! When you are able to respond to his bad personality in a positive manner, you are gaining the position you need in order to train him effectively.

The dog who has a bad personality needs your calm attititude, patience, and positive reinforcements even more than a dog who has a more pleasant disposition. When you do not allow your impatience, anger, or frustration to reflect on how you treat your dog, you will be setting the stage where he will be more inclined to listen, rather than resisting your commands.

As your difficult dog did not acquire his bad personality overnight, it is important to keep in mind that you cannot change it overnight, either. You may not end up with a quiet, docile dog at all; but if you keep your approach to his training on a calm and positive level, you will get far less resistence from him. If you do your best to be consistent with this approach, it is likely that you will be very happy with the results.

Your dog will be much less difficult to deal with, and he will be a much better pet to live with. Instead of your dog's training being a frustrating battle, you should begin to see a world of difference in his willingness to cooperate. He will not only be easier to manage, but will be a true delight to you!
