Owning a dog often comes with the responsibility of training
the dog. A number of people are ready and willing to start
training their new found friend, but they may not be sure of
what is necessary to be able to properly train their dog.
It is very important to train the dog properly; otherwise,
they may not be able to learn what is required of them. Just
like humans, different dogs will benefit most from different
obedience training tactics so do not be afraid to mix things up
and try new tactics. Regardless, there are some basic and
common materials that will be needed in order to make sure that
the dog is able to get the most out of their obedience and
training lessons, whether they are given by their owners or
given at a dog school by someone else that is working in
training them.
First of all, and most obviously, one of the first dog
training devices is a leash. Some people prefer a choke leash
while others prefer a standard leash. When using a standard
leash, which is more advisable, it is important to use a
harness as well. This is because otherwise a dog may wriggle
out of their collar and the leash that is attached to it. Do
NOT tighten a collar in order to make up for this drawback if
the collar already fits properly.
The point of a properly fitting collar is so that if the dog
does get caught by the collar they will be able to break free
and not get hurt. Choke collars are not as advisable because
they can make the dog feel like they did something wrong.
Harnesses do not need to be used when the dog is walking, since
they will not be as likely to struggle to get away. This also
helps them know when it is time to work and when it is time to
play. Snacks are also necessary as a reward for good behavior.
