Dog Collar Facts

Dog collars come in a wide variety. There are many types of dog
collars ranging form simple dog collar styles to unique dog
collars. Different dog collars serve different needs. These
types of collars range form obedience collars all the way to
large thick leather collars. Here are some examples of dog
collars and what each collar is made for.
Buckle collars are the most common type of dog collars. They
can come in two different forms being flat or rolled. You want
to use rolled buckled dog collars for larger dogs and the flat
buckled dog collars for smaller dogs.
Another type of collar is a quick release collar. Now this type
of collar is a simple collar that has a snapping mechanism like
on a backpack. These types of collars are best used on small to
medium size dogs. Large dogs can easily break the snaps off and
are not recommended using quick release collars. The only real
advantage of quick release dog collars are that they are easier
to put on and take off of your dog.
Now the following types of dog collars are special collars that
are to be used only while training your dog. The first one is a
choke chain and is exactly how it sounds. It is a chain linked
collar that chokes your animal when it reaches to far. A choke
chain is comparable to a metal noose.
The last type of collar is what is called a head collar. This
collar is placed on your dogs head and works like a choke chain
and is designed to only be used when training your dog and not
for everyday wear.
To make sure that your dog collar fits properly, stick your
fingers underneath the collar. If a couple of your fingers can
fit between the dog collar and your dogs neck, then it is
fitted properly. If you cannot fit a couple of fingers between
the dog collar and your dogs neck, then the dog collar is to
tight.
